LOTR, Goal Setting and Time Management

We are halfway through Spring (or halfway to Summer) and it has been a beautiful Spring in Knoxville.

Springtime is odd though.

Spring is when we really start wanting things.

Maybe it’s everything in bloom but all of the sudden we are reminded that we have goals.

For some of us it’s a boost and some of us it may feel like a kick.

Enjoy 2 tips and 1 thought for people who are starting to feel that itch for “more” in their lives.

Tip #1 – Count the Cost

“You can have anything you want but you cannot have everything you want.”

Everything we do contradicts something else.

If I go to bed on time I will feel rested tomorrow. Reward.

If I go to bed on time I may not get to catch up on The Last of Us. Penalty.

If I have multiple drinks every week I may have a good time in my social circles. Reward.

If I have multiple drinks every week I won’t be losing any weight which will take me away from my goal. Penalty.

When you say you want something make sure you want what comes with it.

Tip #2 – Know Your Schedule

The best tool for reaching your goals is time management.

When you want something you have to create a space for that thing to grow.

New York is an insanely busy city.

Central Park feels peaceful and calm in comparison to the nonstop movement on the streets surrounding it.

It is a space dedicated to a intentional way of being.

Your schedule should operate in a similar way.

Understand what you can realistically do and create a space for your goals to flourish or they won’t.

Build your garden in the noise.

Thought

There are no gold stars for doing it on your own.

No one loses 50 lbs and then experiences a barrage of people asking “but did you do it completely alone?”

Doing things fully on your own does not change the end result

Doing things alone is often a really fast path to not getting to your end goal in general and if you are still reading I can assume that’s not you.

Frodo needed the Fellowship and you would be smart to find your Samwise (and co.) as well.

Summary

Know what you’re getting into, make sure you and your google calendar feel good about the journey ahead and when you set out on your way to Mordor make sure you bring someone with you.

Spring is passing fast and Summer is almost here.
